Chester Michael McDonnell Mayo

ROCHESTER, MINN -- The funeral for Chester M. Mayo will be at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at The Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Rochester; the Rev. Ronald Meyer will officiate. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Chester Michael McDonnell Mayo, 17, died Sunday (Nov. 25, 2007) in a plane crash in Faribault, Minn. Also killed in the crash were his father, Dr. Chester W. Mayo; his girlfriend, Corey Creger; and his roommate, Jay Wang.

Chester was born Jan. 22, 1990, in Rochester. He was currently a student at Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, where he was involved in drama. He loved his family, his dogs, his friends, his girlfriend and his roommate. He had a passion for theatre and music, especially the acoustic guitar.

He is survived by his mother, Dr. Julie McDonnell Mayo of Aberdeen, S.D.; two sisters, Chloe and Charlotte, and a brother, Chandler, all at home in Aberdeen; and grandparents, Joanne C. Ward Sokolski and Michael Sokolski of Santa Ana, Calif., Joseph G. Mayo II of Belize and Rochester, and Dan McDonnell of Seattle.

Friends may call an hour before the service at the church.

The family prefers memorials to Dr. Bernard Morrey, Mayo Clinic Orthopedics Department Leadership Administration; Shattuck-St. Mary's School; or Aberdeen Golden Eagles Special Olympics.

Macken Funeral Home of Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
